RECYCLING & DONATION RESOURCES

Below you will find a list of some of my favorite places to donate useful items. You can feel confident that your belongings will be put to good use at these community-oriented non-profit organizations:

Dress For Success – A non-profit that provides interview clothing and accessories, confidence boosts and career development to low income women who are looking for employment. www.dressforsuccess.org

Oregon Community Warehouse – Non-profit agency that collects and redistributes gently used furniture and basic household items to people in need throughout Oregon and SW Washington. www.communitywarehouse.org

FreeGeek – A 501(c)(3) not for profit community organization that recycles used technology to provide computers, education, internet access and job skills training to those in need in exchange for community service. www.freegeek.org

SCRAP – School and Community Reuse Action Project. A non-profit whose mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community.  They accept a wide variety of clean and useable art and craft supplies, fabric, yarn, paper and some office supplies. www.scrapaction.org

Freecycle – A Yahoo group that allows posting of free items. With well over 33,000 members in Portland alone, your items will undoubtedly go to a home that needs them!

Far West Fibers - A great place to recycle plastics and other materials that can't go in your curbside bin. Several locations in the greater Portland metro area can be found here:  http://www.farwestfibers.com/index.html
